10. barbie fashionista review: leather and ruffles

Quick post for this weekend: a review on one of my Christmas doll gifts, 2016 Barbie Fashionista Leather & Ruffles!

When the 2016 Fashionistas were revealed, there were several I really liked right away but Leather and Ruffles was the first one who made me gasp out loud. THAT HAIR. So incredible.

LOVE IT.

She comes with two extra outfits, an extra pair of shoes, and two accessories: a necklace and a purse.

The necklace I can take or leave (I'm not wild about most Barbie jewelry, honestly). The purse is cute, but I don't see my particular Leather & Ruffles doll as a purse girl so she never uses it.

The necklace in action! It suits the outfits she comes with, but I'm just not wild about it.

The purse! Nothing flashy, but that means it'll probably work with a whole range of outfits and styles.

Her black booties have a quilted look but are otherwise uncomplicated. Like the purse, they are more about getting the job done than attracting a lot of attention. They will probably go with a lot of looks, too.

Her second pair of shoes is a pair of kitten heels with a chain design along the back and ankle. I actually really like them, and another of my dolls wears them all the time. However, they're all but impossible to stand dolls up in, since the heel is so small.

Her second outfit! I love the comfortable look and feel of the shirt, with the slightly oversized neckline. The pink is a really flattering shade for this doll, too. The skirt is really cute, but it's not my favorite part of the set at all.

Also, I was very surprised to discover that it's actually a pencil skirt! Limits their posing and mobility a lot. However, it is definitely a cute look.

The second shirt with her default skirt! If you like pastels and more neutral colors, this outfit might be right up your alley.

This shirt was actually nabbed by another of my Fashionistas, Blue Violet, who wears it with the Barbie and the Rockers fashion set shorts over her (Blue Violet's) own default denim shorts with built in pink tights. Since Blue Violet is a petite, her body is small enough that the regular sized Rockers shorts fit easily over her smaller denim shorts. I tried the shorts on Leather and Ruffles, just for a laugh, and ended up really loving how the outfit looks on her, too. And it's a big hit with my roommate's kid (who's just under target audience age and already has a lot of opinions about doll fashion.)

Mix and match #2: default shirt and polka dot pencil skirt. It's not a look every doll can pull off, but I'm sure the right one is out there.

Her third oufit is a blue dress with cut-outs on the side. While it's a pretty color that suits her well, I'm not a big fan of the look overall for her.

My own Leather and Ruffles actually spends most of her time in this particular Fashion Pack outfit. I passed the blue dress along to my roommate after she whimsically put it on her new Made to Move Barbie, only for both of us to agree that it was the perfect look for her.

In conclusion, my Leather and Ruffles doll was one that I wished for for almost a year, and was incredibly pleased by once I received her. I love her incredibly unique look, her outfits feature pieces with either mix and match potential or the ability to look perfect on just the right doll, and her accessories are uncomplicated, so they can be used for a lot of looks. I would highly recommend her to anyone interested in adding another Barbie to their collection!
